The Auto Detection/Auto Configuration (ADAC) in computer networking is a networking protocol designed by Nortel to automatically configure Nortel switches to support and prioritize traffic for Nortel IP Phone traffic. When ADAC is enabled and a Nortel IP Phone is connected to the switch, the switch automatically configures the VLAN, port, and QoS settings necessary to support the transmission of signal and voice between the Nortel IP Phone and the switch.

ADAC can be configured globally and by the port. The ADAC protocol can be used with IEEE 802.1AB/LLDP or by itself for auto discovering the phones, setting VLAN PVID, Layer 2 and Layer 3 QoS values. An unlimited number of phones on a port can be supported, simplifing IP Phone configuration, and saving time, which improves Total Cost of Ownership of the VoIP solution.
