The group Bombay Vikings caused in sensation in both India as well as overseas amoung the Indian music community because an unusual combination of classical Bollywood style and European experimentation. It has ben one of the most notable musical groups in India to emerge in the past decade. The leader of the band is Niraj Shridhar [2] who grew up in Sweden, listening to Hindu music of his parents who migrated from India [3] The music of Bombay Vikings draws inspiration from the classic Hindi music of the 1940s-1970s [4] however adds modern European influences [5],[6]. Inspired original musicIn classic Sanskrit literature there is a genre termed samaysya-purti[7], where an initial line is given (often taken from existing classics), and new compositions are written to conform to it. Bombay Vikings has sometimes taken this approach of some of its most memorable music. For example, the original classic Bollywood songs from Barsaat (1949):
