The term machine-readable (or computer-readable) refers to information encoded in a form which can be, scanned or sensed by a machine or computer and interpreted by its hardware and software. Theoretically, anything that can be read by a human can also be read by machines, although it may not necessarily be comprehended. Common machine-readable data storage and data transmission technologies include processing waveforms, optical character recognition (OCR) and barcodes.
