Controversy

Almost from the moment it was announced, the movie was denounced for taking product placement to the extreme, and doing it in a movie targeted at children.[2] Threshold Digital did not accept payment for any product placement, but potential distributors shied away from the project.[3] A deal was struck with Lions Gate Entertainment in 2005; shortly afterwards, major changes were made to the project. Celebrity voice talent was announced; new scenes, utilizing motion capture animation were filmed[4]; characters were altered to more "kid-friendly" forms (lead character "Dex Detective" was anthropomorphised into "Dex Dogtective", for instance.)

Additional controversy may be anticipated from the announced plot, which seems to cast brand name products as the heroes and generic brand products as the villains. This could be interpreted as encouraging consumerism in the movie's young target audience, much like the society in the dystopian future of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.[citation needed]

Release

As of Summer of 2008, no release date has been announced by Lions Gate Films or the cast and crew.[5]
