US Government DebtThe US Government debt stands at over ten trillion dollars, or $10,124,225,067,127.60 to be exact. All US banknotes are the same size at 2.61 inches tall, 6.14 inches wide and 0.0043 inches thick. The highest denomination currently printed is the $100 bill, but for arguments sake let's say the US treasury starts issuing $1000 bills again. If you stacked enough thousand dollar bills on top of each other to pay off the US debt, the stack would be 687.09 US miles high (1,105.77 km). That's equivalent to the distance between Atlanta and Philadelphia, or over three lines of $1000 bills between Washington and New York. The current price of gold is $USD830.95, so to pay off the debt the US government would need to deliver 381,183 US Tons of gold (345,803.56 tonnes). Suppose the next elected president of the United States quite literally had the Midas touch. The US has 100 senators and 535 Representatives. The average American weighs about 180 pounds, meaning all the members of congress together weigh approximately 57.15 US tons (51.8 tonnes). So even if the president could turn every member of congress into their weight in gold, and the American people could elect a completely new congress every day, it would take over 18 years to pay off the US Government debt. And that assumes that there is no interest on the loan. Consensus is not the same as majority agreementFrom wiktionary...
