Request for help in starting an article

I understand you are a power user of Wikipedia and are willing to help new users.

I am a brand new user to Wikipedia. On February 8th, I attempted to post some information about Reid Supply Company, a global industrial products, components and supplies distributor. Unfortunately, I didn't understand all of the processes and procedures in posting information on Wikipedia and because there were so many external links, I was the victim of a speedy deletion by Kurt Raschke (21:00 8 Feb 2008). I accidentally deleted the tags on the article which made things worse. I have contacted Mr. Raschke on his talk page and requested instructions on how to repost the corrected version of the information, but have yet to receive instructions. My comments are posted on his talk page which you can link to from my talk page.

Can you provide instructions on how I can get the new information about Reid Supply Company on Wikipedia and get the Reid Supply Company name "unblocked" from speedy deletion?

Thank you for your assistance.

Gpalmer7 (talk) 15:07, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Gpalmer7

Hello Gpalmer7. Perhaps the easiest option for you is to re-create a temporary copy of the article content in your user space (see Wikipedia:USERFY, Wikipedia:User_page). So others can see the content you are proposing to add.
Once you have done that, (or if you need help figuring out how to even do that), try visiting the WP help page for new editors: link here and ask for help in establishing the content in a regular WP article.
Please note, however that there are guidelines one must consider when posting information about a company, (See e.g., WP:COI). Hope that helps, thanks for your efforts to help add content to Wikipedia. dr.ef.tymac (talk) 23:32, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Image:Ico_appdbs_node000.svg listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Ico_appdbs_node000.svg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Help resolving a dispute

Hi, I saw your name in the editors willing to help section. I seem to have gotten myself in the middle of two groups that are in a revert war on the Jeff Jacoby page. I'm trying to take the middle of the road approach to maintain the non-POV nature but these folks seem determined to drive on. Can you take a look and give some suggestions before people (including me) start getting blocked for violations of the revert standards? Thx Hardnfast (talk) 13:49, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Greetings User:Hardnfast, I've only had a quick glance at the article in question, here are some quick suggestions.
  • Encourage all relevant parties to discuss on the talk page. Batting comments back in forth in the edit summary is rarely very productive.
  • Regarding the AAA reference: It is definitely good to request a reference. If someone persists in refusing a reasonable request for providing verification, there are alternatives to edit-warring:
  1. Indicate the disputed portions of the article with a "fact" tag indicating a need for a citation
  2. Flag the relevant subsection(s) of the article as insufficiently referenced pursuant to WP:V
  3. Flag the entire article as insufficiently referenced pursuant to WP:V
  • Regarding ongoing dispute and avoiding edit-warring: There are a few options you have:
  1. Take a look at Wikipedia:Dispute. There are some very useful links in there, (e.g., Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard)
  2. Request help on Wikipedia:Help_desk
  3. Request a "third opinion" on Wikipedia:Third opinion
Please note that all of these items should be preceded by an attempt to discuss the matter with the disputing parties on the talk page. Perhaps a reasonable compromise can be met by calmly discussing the opposing viewpoints. dr.ef.tymac (talk) 16:36, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Request on Jeff Jacoby article to remove citecheck

The Jacoby article has been locked, however, someone still got at it and removed the citation that was in dispute. They did not, however, remove the citecheck (see talk page and history).

I would request that either the statement with the dispute citation be returned, and the citecheck stay on, or that the citecheck be *removed* from this article, as there was never a problem with any other citation.

Don't know if you can help, but...thanks.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kerouac2k (talkcontribs) 12:18, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Stephen Eyre

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Stephen Eyre, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Help

Could you maybe help out on these page with displaying references in is own section; tidy it up a bit Kelvin Martinez (talk) 21:38, 10 July 2008 (UTC) Honorific titles in popular music

Hi Kelvin Martinez, not sure time will permit much of a helping hand at this time unfortunately. The content looks interesting though. dr.ef.tymac (talk) 16:20, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Since the page is not gonna be deleted is ok now for the nomination to be removed? Kelvin Martinez (talk) 01:21, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't look like the discussion is closed yet, so you should not do that. You might want to take a look at Wikipedia:Help_desk and WP:AFD to find out more about how article delete conversations work, or you can ask for more details on the help desk, if you haven't done that already.
It looks like you are working hard to make improvements, hats off to you for all your efforts. dr.ef.tymac (talk) 02:01, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Article Redirection

I'm a little bit confused as to why you set up a page for John Resig only to make it redirect to the jQuery JavaScript Library page, especially considering that:

  1. The page links to itself.
  2. There is no actual information about John Resig on the jQuery page.
  3. The John Resig page is linked to from a number of locations - none of which have to do with jQuery, directly.

Were you planning on creating a stub page? At least in its current state it doesn't seem to be useful. --Jeresig (talk) 20:13, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Greetings Jeresig, I simply noticed that John Resig was red-linked in numerous places, and I considered an active link to one of the principle associations with that name better than a red-link that goes nowhere.
Although this is not optimal, it is not an unheard of practice to link an individual's name to an invention, company or organization of that individual. This is especially useful in cases where the page of the individual is deleted for some reason or another, but the invention or company page remains.
Having said that, a BIO stub may be a good idea, although usually I tend to avoid creating BIO articles myself. If this rationale seems less than ideal for you, please do not hesitate to look into an alternate course or direction for the relevant content and I will be happy to help with ideas or alternatives to the extent I can. Cheers. dr.ef.tymac (talk) 01:34, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for the feedback. I guess this can hold for now - I'm not really in a place to write up a bio (being the subject of the article) so I'll have to let someone else handle those details. I'll be sure to ping you if something comes up. --Jeresig (talk) 01:46, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
That makes sense. Thanks for your comments and all the best. dr.ef.tymac (talk) 02:02, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

article redirected

I created a wiki entry for Christina Christian (contestant on American Idol). That page was deleted and redirected to the actual American Idol season 1 wiki page. I think that her name should point to her biography which i researched and uploaded. I cant seem to find all of my edits in the history section for that page. Can you help me? Your best bet with this is to ask for an admin to help you on the Wikipedia:Help_desk. Give it a shot. dr.ef.tymac (talk) 00:00, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

People ganging up to disrupt an article

Hi,

I found you at Wikipedia:Editor assistance. If you can spare a few minutes of your time helping out at Indo-Aryan loanwords in Tamil, I would be thankful.

I am developing an article on words borrowed by Tamil from Indo-Aryan languages. I am citing a standard authoritative lexicon from which I find the words that are borrowed before including them at Indo-Aryan loanwords in Tamil. There are a few people who seem to be intent in damaging the article by adding "cite" tags, "disputed" and "dubious" tags for the article and threatening to delete it within 24 hours.

Could you please help?

Thanks. Kris (talk) 19:10, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Greetings Kris, it looks like User:DGG has left some remarks on the discussion page of that article. If that does not help you might want to try WP:3O to get a "third opinion" on the matter. That's probably about the best advice I can give on this particular matter. dr.ef.tymac (talk) 01:03, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

article editing

Hello Please could you guide me on the article 'nazargunj'. Although created many months ago and edited/improved since, it is still tagged as an article that may need to be 'wikified'. Fine with me - purpose is just to put down some facts - do you know how one can have it either verified and/or formatted to the requisite standard?

Kind regards

Greetings Sid, please have a look at the WP article Karauli. This is a good example that you may use as a template by way of comparison. dr.ef.tymac (talk) 07:59, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

MFU by HC

I would like to add an article for HC. Do you know if he's done anything else besides MFU, Acid Round The clock, Washington Pissed, etc?

--Golden Eternity (talk) 19:04, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Greetings Golden Eternity. My guess is one is not likely to encounter much in the way of additional (verifiable) publications by HC. Unless I am mistaken, that pen name was only adopted as a formality pursuant to requirements for publication of the (formerly) online-only content. Given that the author has rigorously maintained personal anonymity, it's very unlikely that the name was intended for use in any other context. You still may be able to find out more by sending him an e-mail if you haven't already tried that. dr.ef.tymac (talk) 00:31, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
I tried a long time ago. I guess I'll try again. Do you know anyone else that is familiar with this work that might know more?--Golden Eternity (talk) 22:20, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
