There is a new funky syntax - see this page. Tip: you can sign by typing ~~~~ which will include your user name automagically and you don't have to type "EurporacBHIT" afterward. For example, if I type ~~~~ it will come out as Dysprosia 09:35, 23 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Very happy to be part of the WikiProject Melbourne.

I have decided to keep a Microsoft Word version of the document that you refer to, to be consulted before all Wikipedia articles are contributed to by me (saves the white vanilla effect!).

I wish more applications would support wikiformat, as much of it is counter-intuitive. Oh, it makes me shake my head sometimes!

No, Shire of Nillumbik should be linked to the article of the same name. The phrase "Local Government Area" should be linked to [[Local Government Areas of Victoria. (So that was the problem with the 'useless tables' described in the "Edit History", as I had noticed with a few Yarra Ranges pages). I will spend some special time putting on Jerzy's new table (see the WikiProject Melbourne). The table was started on the 25th May. They were intended, of course, to be filled up with suburbs (or rather be placemakers for them!), but it is more trouble than we had intended. (Rather that Hypernovean intended, it was his/her idea to put them there; I applied the idea for suburb stubs). EuropracBHIT 02:36, 24 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Can someone supply me with a few details on where I can find out more about WikiProject Melbourne? I made edits to suburbs around the City of Greater Dandenong and I hope I didn't break any style conventions. Mostly I filled in the suburb adjacency tables. I considered a suburb to be adjacent only if it physically touched the main suburb. This has meant that some tables finished up with less than 9 cells. See Noble Park for an example.

Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. Hi, thanks for your interest in the Spoken article project. I see that you've made a number of addtions to Wikipedia:WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia/Requests. That's a big help, as it is difficult to decide the best articles to in to which to invest the time needed to re-edit and record. May I ask how you happened to pick those articles? Thanks for your reply. When I asked about whether you had a personal interest, I should have been clearer. I mean, do you personally want to listen to them, either due to an inability to read printed material (visual impairment) or due to an enjoyment in listening to spoken articles? Or are these articles that you think others would be interested in? The reason that I ask is that some articles don't seem to be logical choices for spoken articles. Simple diagrams can be explained fairly easily, but the diagrams in soda can stove, for example, are extensive and complicated. I'm left wondering why anyone would want to listen to that article if they could read it instead. I agree that some "core topics", like history articles, are obvious choices. Anyway, I'm not picking on you, I'm just trying to figure out who is interested in this project and how to address those interests best. Thanks for your contributions. You've made a good summary of how the Spoken Wikipedia project can be used. However, I don't know that the technology split of old computers is applicable. If a pre-1995 computer has trouble viewing Internet pages then I'm not sure how well it would handle OGG files. The good part there that I perceive is the ability to gain benefit from articles while away from a computer, possibly while doing some manual activity. The inappropriate article I was referring to is soda can stove, because it is far less useful without the diagrams and those diagrams would be difficult and tedious to describe. It is not as inappropriate as some requests, like Fuck or Longest word in English, which seem to be requested just for humor. (That said, apparently user:timwi is trying to complete the longest word article. And there's nothing wrong with humor either). Best wishes and thanks for your support of the project. but both have a few that you might consider to be "repeats".

The ISBN I added to Dessaix's page because you can click on it, choose Amazon, which gets you to that book page and then click on the author's name, which is equivalent to the above URL.

If you did not want to list all of them, it is common to have a section entitled "Selected Books". I usually just include the title, year and ISBN, but the very brief descriptions you provided are helpful. An ISBN is not perfect because works published in Europe often have a different ISBN (different cover, maybe even a different title), but at least it leads one easily to a broad view of what the writer has published.

The interview is far too long for me to translate it -- sorry. Maybe there is some who will undertake it, see Wikipedia:Translation_into_English#Hungarian-to-English. If you're very much concerned about its trustworthiness, you can put these parts into comments <!-- like this --> (instead of deleting them), but to me the article seemed to be trustworthy. I see you have quite rightly reverted the nonsense added to this page. It was added last week and then reverted. It was then put back this week. I note that very similar nonsense has been added to other pages by the same person. Can the Melbourne Wiki Project ban this person? No problem i live in the area and have a fair knowledge of past history and other random facts. yes the police paddocks are infact around here, i actually play softball at the softball grounds located just in them.

you have also updated some of the dandenong and surrounding suburbs pages i see, i know quite afew people who have lived in these areas many years and i might one day get around to entering some of the historic facts/storys ive heard over the years.

I mainly did the Darren Millane page beacause im in the process of creating a "Collingwood Legends" web site, i saw he wasnt on the site and just added abit of info ive found randomly on the net.

Greenspan

The first idea is indeed an interesting book, and I suspect that this is because the two authors are not in the same field. Greenspan seems to have more experience as a child psychiatrist, whereas Shanker has more experience as a philosopher/psychologist who has taught chimpanzees to speak. The two seems to have found more common ground betweeen a child and bonobo than any I have seen before them.

The additional stages come after the first stages, so the authors are there talking about older children all the way thru life, and the last stage includes what most would consider "old age". They call stage 16 "wisdom of the ages".

My interest is an interest in anything regarding how thought works, and their views seemed to be 100% compatible with my views in the reviews, so I read it in august last year. My goal is to make my computer think for me, since I am too lazy to do this myself. Whether I succeed or not, it is a very interesting hobby.

There is a user with the user name Varga Mila who is studying apes, and she suggested Tomasello, so I read one of his last week. Pray tell, what is your interest in this area?DanielDemaret 07:53, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi Bronywn, Judging from the lack of response at the last meetup when the Comm Games was mentioned it would appear that sport, or was it just the Comm Games, was of little interest. Fifth Melbourne meetup

The fifth meetup of Melbourne Wikipedians is being planned as a breakfast meeting in the city with Jimbo Wales (at a venue to be arranged) on Friday, 27 April 2007.

Jimbo has proposed breakfast as the one real window of opportunity during his tightly scheduled stay in Melbourne. Tbe precise time has to be sorted out with Jimbo, but the arrangements for the equivalent Adelaide meetup a few days before may give a good idea.

Feel free to edit the relevant page in any way that might be helpful. I feel like a bit of an interloper, not having attended previous meetups. If there's anything you can do to help, I'll be grateful. Please think about whether you'll be able to make it, assuming the arrangements are similar to those Adelaide is adopting (i.e. a block of time with people being fairly free to arrive when it suits them).
