Thanks

Thanks for the aid in the XXII Corps (ACW) page. I learned a couple things from your assistance. Leobold1 (talk) 19:36, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome. If you are interested in other tips, I have compiled a list of style guidelines in User:Hlj/CWediting. Hal Jespersen (talk) 20:12, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

XXII Corps

Leobold, you're more than welcome to make any changes to the Defenses of Washington DC infobox that you see fit. I'm just happy that someone's found it useful enough to make changes to. I've pretty much retired from the Military History side of Wikipedia in an effort to focus more on college football, so feel free to do what you think is right to make that infobox a better fit and more useful. Thanks for all your hard work! JKBrooks85 (talk) 06:19, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Helpful Links

In case you wondered where it went, your Helpful Links page ended up in main article space by mistake. I moved it to User:Leobold1/Helpful Links for you. -- Shadowlynk (Talk) 06:00, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

XXII review

You asked for review comments:

  1. If you want to advance this article to a status such as Good Article or Featured Article, you need to add footnotes.
  2. The paragraph about naming of the armies, while marginally relevant to an article about a corps, needs to be derived -- and cited -- from a secondary source.
  3. You overuse capital letters within sentences, such as Corps and Regiment; capitalize them only when referring to specific named units.
  4. You have some date formatting problems, mostly of the month-year variety -- consult my style guide for examples.
  5. You should be consistent about abbreviating and linking to ranks; once again, my style guide has suggestions.
  6. Section headers should be capitalized only in their first word.
  7. There are dates missing under Notable officers (note caps).
  8. Regiments and Brigades of XXII Corps should be Component units or something similar because you have other types of units included. This section would work better as a table.
  9. Why is the 43rd Virginia Cavalry listed in See also? If it is relevant, it should be included in the text of the article.
  10. I assume you used Fox as a reference, not an external link. A ref for it is (replace the embedded URL as you see fit):

Hal Jespersen (talk) 17:05, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

I don't want to mess around with your text because you still have the underconstruction flag raised. FYI, you are using a very old and outdated method for creating Notes, from the antediluvian days of Wikipedia. Check out my style guide for examples of how to use the current reference/note system: User:Hlj/CWediting#Footnotes. Hal Jespersen (talk) 18:37, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Image:106th Field Signal Battalion.jpg

Well, what I've found is that if you leave a blank space in the summary section of any important item (author, date, etc.) the image will be tagged. At the bottom of the upload file choice box there is the line (Do you already know the license and are familiar with our image policies? Go directly to the upload form.). If you use that choice, you have more options as to licensing. The image was pre 1923 so that changes the license you want to use. In the summary field you can leave a statement rather than trying to fill in a form that you may not have all the information. Since I'm not an expert, I hope my help solved the image problem. Infoboxes

Hi there, I saw your comment at WikiProject Infoboxes. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I can see you're fairly new at infoboxes and at the bottom of the learning curve. Nothing wrong with that, we were all there once! It's quite difficult to explain how infobox templates need to be designed. I learnt by looking at some of the infoboxes in Category:Infobox templates and I suggest you have a look round there. It looks like the infobox you were designing is something to do with military history (not my area at all!), I would suggest looking at the information at WP:MILMOS#INFOBOX, which is a subpage of WikiProject Military history. WikiProject Military history is a very active group and I'm sure they'll be able to help if a relevant infobox has already been designed. Have fun! SeveroTC 00:16, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Re: Desk

Roger was referring to my desk :) which incidentally is very much a mess, but I have no plans to tidy it up. Cheers, Ouro (blah blah) 06:58, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

But, I have no desk. I only have a lap. :( Leobold1 (talk) 07:08, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Time for an upgrade :) --Ouro (blah blah) 15:32, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Belated reply

First, thank you very much for your support. The thing with Milhist is the size of the project. It means that solutions have to be scaled up into thousands or tens of thousands and evaluated on that basis. I rather enjoy trying to solve the logistical challenges that it presents. -- talk 05:17, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you

Milhist Coordinator elections
Thank you very much for your support in the recent Military history Wikiproject elections. I went into it expecting to just keep my seat and was astonished to end up with the lead role. I anticipate a rather busy six months :) -- talk 13:42, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your support

Leobold1: I wish to thank you for your support in my unsuccessful bid at becoming an Assistant Coordinator for the Military history WikiProject. Rest assured that I will still be around, probably even more than before, and I have the utmost confidence in the abilities of the current and new coordinators. I might also mention that I am already planning on running again in August. As always, if you need anything, just get in touch. -MBK004 21:34, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Six Flags over Texas template

Hi Leobold1. I noticed that you have created a new template, but I question whether it is necessary (and I think it will confuse non-Texans). I've started a discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Texas#History_templates. Karanacs (talk) 18:38, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

My edit of you private page

I took the liberty of editing your private page, Leobold1/Helpful Links, because the syntax for the template {{shortcut}} is in the process of being updated. You used the template {{Humorantipolicy2}} which includes the template being updated. Your implementation, which worked previously, broke the new syntax. You can find more information at CAT:SHORTFIX. Best wishes. --DRoll (talk) 22:59, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Dancing with the Stars colour change proposal

There's been a few comments that the colours on the scoring charts for Dancing with the Stars are less than ideal for a number of reasons (colour differentiation, hurts the eyes, clashes etc) so I've put a proposal for a colour change up here. Obviously other suggestions are welcome, but I do think a change of some sort should be considered... and this seems like a good time (now that we're officially in between seasons and the articles are stable). As you've shown interest in the past, I thought I'd let you know. Cheers. PageantUpdater talkcontribs 11:00, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Motto of the day

Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.

When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.

If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:37, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
