Visible Light Communications, shortly VLC, is a next generation[clarify] communications medium using visible light between 400T Hz and 800T Hz, that is safe for eyes. It uses ordinary fluorescent bulb or LED to transmit signals. When using fluorescent bulb, it can send information 10 kbit/s, and if LED, 10 Mbit/s. Specially designed electronic devices receive signals from such light source. This technology can be used as communications medium for ubiquitous computing, because lights are put everywhere. HistoryFirst started at Nakagawa Laboratory, in Keio University in 2003. See alsoExternal links
