The Department of Fun is dedicated to providing Wikipedians with things to make them stay at Wikipedia, indirectly improving the encyclopedia. Below, you can find links to fun pages or fun things to do, other Wikipedian Associations, and a list of members who help with the creation and upkeep of entertaining or fun pages.
Please, if you have ideas for activities or competitions, do not hesitate to post them to the discussion page or join the Department of Fun.
Wikifun This page deals mostly with a trivia/scavenger hunt type of competition. The winner of a round goes on to create new tasks for the next round and so on so forth.
What the Wikipedian saw - a tour of the inner sanctions of Wikipedia. A story that You can edit! Which hasn't been edited in months!
The Most POV-Filled Pages on Wikipedia-Because life's too short not to have some POV! Here it is! All exclusive, the one place on Wikipedia you can officially POV all over the place! Bear in mind this is for intelligent POV, not HAI GAIZ AH LIEK MUDKIPZZZZZZZZ! It is not some random place to vandalize. Go to JetLover or Jibajabba for that. Have fun!
The Longest Wiki-Story Continue this story related to Wikipedia and while you're at it, add your name to the list of Legendary Storytellers! (I hope we get at least 1000 pages worth of Wikipediholism in the story.)
WikiLadders, open two random articles and try to get from the first article to the second article using only the links on the first page.
Word Association - One person says one word, then another says a word that relates to it, and so on. This eventually evolved into something hugeenormousbehemothicbrobdingnagian, with many two, three, or Z-dimensional variants. now quite bland and boring.
Wikipedia Roulette To play Wikipedia Roulette click the link, and if a page comes up that you have edited, you win. Extra points if you can either contribute something to, or correct something on, the page you land on.
Wikipedia:Contests (article-writing and other kinds) are another fun thing to do, all of which encourage users to make contributions.
Wikistory - A collaborative project to write a story.
Wikipediholic This page describes the pros/cons of Wikipediholism and also includes a test to see how "wikidicted" you really are.
Unusual articles This page is for Wikipedians to list articles that seem a bit unusual. These articles are valuable contributions to the encyclopedia, but are somewhat odd, whimsical, or... well, something you wouldn't expect to find in the Encyclopædia Britannica. See Exploding whale for an example or just go to the unusual article link.
The sandbox used for edit tests can sometimes be quite amusing. You might browse through the page's history to see what fun, or outright mischief, has happened to this page. If you remove something offensive from the sandbox, you might be awarded the "Atlas Award" -- named after Charles Atlas, the famed bodybuilder, who based his mail order sales business on his claim to have been a "98-pound weakling" who had had "sand kicked in (his) face" by bullies. The sandbox is not a litterbox.
While Meta:Hotel Wikipedia is the official theme song, there's no reason not to make up your own songs. Since it has been recognized that the Wikiholic in particular needs lots of ways to create their own culture or at least encounter their own despair, we probably needs lots more songs on the Wikisong list. Don't worry! You don't have to write music, just rip off a tune everyone knows and change the lyrics, marking it TTTO for "to the tune of" the victimized song.
These songs can be sung in public, but, that may only compound your problem. Just humming a few bars of the song can remind people of the Wikipedia-themed lyrics and create yet more in-jokes that will further isolate you from non-Wikipedian human contact. Which we encourage.

On IRC, there is already a bot (Sarti) that does this. Sarti is a bit flaky though, so I'm working on a bot to replace it. It will be a bit closer to quiz bowl style of play, with multiple clues per answer and a pyramidal question structure. Right now, the bot is command line only, so I need to add IRC functionality. →Raul654

I, Pier Snake have created a template for all users to put at the top of his/her user page. To add it to your user page use this. {{User:Pier Snake/Fun}} The template looks like this.
This User likes to have fun on his/her user page. Please do not be alarmed. Don't say I didn't warn you...

I'm trying to find the person who said "Millard Fillmore ate a rutabaga and badger muffaletta", it was in a discussion about deleting funny word but I cannot spot the original discussion... Pedant 03:21, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
I would like to see more people using the template Youshouldbe or signed to category Egocentric Wikipedians [2], what can I do? I'd be satisfied with such thing done. — & 15:44, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
I think we need to set up more voluntary associations, like one for Wikipedians who are interesting in being representatives to the other projects run by Wikipedia, click here for a prototype. 12:04, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

A template would be cool. A template that you could leave on a user talk page before your sig that said something to the effect of "the Wikipedia Department of Fun has been here." (Obviously more creative, I just can't think of anything right now). That way if I left a message with someone in the name of fun I could tag it with that template too. You know, so they know who's responsible for spreading the fun. Any takers for this fun assignment?A mcmurray 20:57, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
I think a template for humorous related articles would be a better idea. Ronbo76 22:04, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
I don't know if most users here are interested in contributing to humor related articles, but sure why not. IvoShandor 06:34, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
I've created a Department of Fun template to use on humorous related articles, review it. {{Department_of_Fun}} & 01:56, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
