Welcome to WikiProject Sydney! This WikiProject aims primarily to create, fill out, build, edit, construct, and modify articles about Sydney. Sydney is the oldest city in New South Wales and Australia and has many places of interest, significant events and interesting people that have helped form the unique character and style of the city.
If you would like to join this project, we would love your help, so please add your name to the list below, and look at the to-do list for some suggestions on articles that you may be able to help with. You may also inquire on the talk page, or visit the Australian Wikipedians' noticeboard for collaboration on Australian articles in general.
This is a list of participants in the WikiProject Sydney. To add your name, click "edit" and add your name at the bottom of the list, with a short message about areas of interest.
Jasmine — Just contributing photographs for now. If you need a photograph taken, drop me a line and I'll see what I can do. I live in Annandale so the Inner West would be easiest. (And no, I can't drive!)
jpmanalo - I can expand on Gladesville, Cowan and Berowra and it's surrounds. I'll also add to the Leichhardt entry, and I may possibly create an entry for Norton Street (seeing I have lunch on Norton Street almost every day...). UPDATE (03/04/2006)- Now working on Newington, as I now go there frequently, and have found some tasty sources regarding the place.
Daveb - Can provide info on North West / Hills District as time allows
Gregwmay - live in Newtown, geography- and map-focused, may be able to help with some map images, have GIS software and skills etc., possibly some access to data although Australia is a stickler for royalties and copyrights. Don't drive, have digital camera and plenty of time until late April 2006.
Quolnok - Probably only do stuff to things in the Shire (and mostly things in the western parts) particularly Bangor.
Ziperingzap I live on North Shore and know a bit about trains.
J Bar - Know the St George area well Rockdale/Kogarah/Hurstville and a bit about Sutherland Shire
User:Nebuchanezzar - I plan on writing a large part of the new University of New South Wales article (with Witty Llama), as well as perhaps working on something for Camden and Campbelltown. I may even be able to help out with a few Sydney CBD articles.
Angela26 I live at South Hurstville in the St George area.
User:Vicer - I live in Cronulla, Sutho Shire area. I lived in the St. George area most of my life so I know a fair bit about both Sutho and St. George areas. I can contribute information about both areas, as well as some knowledgable CityRail info.
Terovian - From the Northern Beaches (Manly, Warringah and Pittwater LGA's), dedicated to expanding on Warringah Council's article, and other area's of intrest on the Northern Beaches.
Sole - Born & Bred, will focus on Inner West area.
Blackall46 - North Shore, Northern Beaches and Sydney/Middle Harbour - there to help anywhere.
ætrnal→ - Southerner. What else can I say? Straight out of the southern subs. I think I know some people here...
User:Efansay - Bankstown's where I live, and that's all I can work on other then the Bexley area. I can also do stuff on Yagoona
User:paulytlws - I live in Shalvey. Have edited the Shalvey article and I will try to get a photo of Mt Druitt Train Station and some other places.
User:Sardaka - Live in eastern subs. Can contribute photos and sometimes text. Have already done so with several articles
-1348- - Resident of the Northern beaches and know the areas of Manly & Warringah (Manly, Balgowlah, Seaforth, Dee Why, Collaroy, Cromer, etc.) especially in the areas of transport and the history of local pollitics. Also are familiar with the night life of the area.
Bendiviolet - Originally a Novocastrian, been living in Sydney about a year; mostly interested in history, politics and railways.
User:Dyllip - I can help with Shopping Centre articles.
Bleakcomb - Whatever I can. I'll have a look at the requested photos.
I recently did a quick search on Google for possible sources and came across a few references to A Compendium of CityRail Travel Statistics published by RailCorp. If someone could get a copy, then it could be a valuable source. 06:51, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
The one which caused $1.7 billion damage? If anyone has any photos they could upload, that'd be great. Government agencies can't give me much, unfortunately. If you could upload any form of photo of this event or the aftermath, I'd be extremely grateful. Cheers, Daniel 11:49, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Sardaka, J Bar and some others have been compiling some heritage photos of suburbs around Sydney. Can someone take a photo of Llangollen House in Summer Hill? It's at 52 Grosvenor Crescent near Summer Hill station (the hospital site). I believe it's going to get demolished soon, and while it's in a bit of a dilapidated state at present, it's better that we get a photo now than not at all. While someone is at it, a photo of Grosvenor Hospital (the former mansion Carleton which is mentioned in teh Summer Hill article) and some of the mansions on Victoria St, Ashfield, opposite Trinity Grammar School, would be helpful too. There's a heritage page at Ashfield Council with some helpful files on different houses in the area. Any help would be much appreciated. JRG 08:43, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
How soon is it being demolished? For me the problem in getting a photo is not geographical proximity, but access to a camera. If it's urgent, I could try to arrange something. Bruiseviolet (talk) 05:59, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Fairly soon, I gather - they have been assembling construction buildings in the old driveway. JRG (talk) 05:39, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
I've started a peer review for the Presbyterian Ladies' College, Sydney article (it can be found here). The article was promoted to GA in November and I feel it could potentially be a FA, but im not sure what else needs to be done to it before I take it to FAC. I would appreciate any suggestions. As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.
The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.
Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.
Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Tourism Sydney
I think this one is better than a C class. You might want to have it upgraded. Also, why is this 'Tourism' which I thought would be better suited to the tourism industry - hotels, govt support, marketing etc. Shouldn't it be Travel or Visitor information? Mdw0 (talk) 08:13, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Sydney
We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.
A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.
We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! It's a pity that two rugby league teams (Sydney Roosters, South Sydney Rabbitohs) are included but no other football codes. Is it possible to tweak the numbers so that Sydney Swans is included; they are just below the present cutoff [1]. WWGB (talk) 06:37, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
Drains, Bunkers and Tunnels
There have been a number of photos loaded into Sydney suburb articles recently by and editor who has an interest in drains bunkers and tunnels. I think that there is sometimes a good reason to have these sorts of photos if the structure really is a well-known feature of the suburb but I am concerened that we will end up with a lot of photos of items which are not really landmark structures in those suburbs. The Macquarie Park, New South Wales is the latest article which has had 2 large photos of drains loaded in the article. I am keen to hear from other Sydney project contributors because I don't want to get caught up in an edit war with one editor who insists on including these photos in a prominent position. J Bar (talk) 08:53, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
The site referenced on that page is essentially a blog for urban explorers in Canada who happened to do a trip inside the drain. It is not a notable source that can verify the notability of the drain. You are well within your rights to delete it; it's also not mentioned in the article so it's not directly relevant to anything in the text. At best it should be in a gallery and much more preferably not at all (put it in Commons for people to have a look at there). JRG (talk) 04:34, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
