William Stallings is an American computer scientist, best known for his textbooks on computer science topics such as operating systems, computer networks, computer organization, and cryptography. Stallings received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame and his doctorate in computer science from MIT. He is currently working as an independent consultant. Many of Stallings' titles have become standard texts in the field and are widely used in universities. He has six times received the award for the best computer science and engineering textbook of the year from the Text and Academic Authors Association. His best known books include:
