Wintersun, released on September 13, 2004, is the first release and full-length studio album by heavy metal band Wintersun. According to Jari Mäenpää, the cover reflects the cold and spacy atmosphere of the music on the album. Also, the man lying in the snow represents death, while the light behind the trees represents birth, or healing.[1] The Japanese edition of the album was released with the original three demo tracks.[2]

Reviews- "merges the hyper-fast precision of Yngwie Malmsteen-like guitar playing (witness the speedy "Beyond the Dark Sun") with the melodic sensibilities of post-Helloween power metal (see the more diverse "Winter Madness") and a homegrown passion for folk-styled songwriting descended straight from trailblazing compatriots Amorphis." "flirts with doom via its slow-creeping riffs" "alternates clean and rough vocals with a jaw-dropping display of pyrotechnic guitar heroics" "a stunning (if quite morbid) black metal tour de force in terms of both words and musical attack." "a recommended release for lovers of relatively accessible extreme metal."- All Music[3] - "a masterpiece" "a nice little shot of heaviness" "It’s simply beautiful, from the deathly despair feel of some of the songs. To the energetic black sounding ones, this album will please many, especially people who are looking for constant variety in their music. The music is progressive, yet primitive, it combines feelings of sadness, anger, even hope all in one gigantic package, that somehow manages to stay in one piece." "you should honestly listen to this one. It has something for you, I can just about guarantee it."-Sounds of Metal[4] - "pure gold, the brutal vocals, clean vocals, tight riffing, jaw dropping solos, everything has the maturity of an accomplished musician and song writer." "a brilliant sound." "pretty effective" "a chilling snowstorm of Black Metal atmospheres, killer riffing and melodies and propelling blast beats that freezes even the hottest of summers."- The Metal Observer[5] CreditsBand membersProduction
