Woden's Folk is a heathen group based in England in the United Kingdom. The aim of Woden's Folk is to create a new folkish religion for the English, rooted in the worship of the old gods of England. The immediate aim of the group is to prepare the way for the manifestation of the English Avatar, HelgiH, which is said to be a specific form of the god Kalki. This avatar is also described as The Hooded Man, and is seen as an incarnation of Woden. Woden's Folk encourages its supporters to prepare themselves for the possibility of a coming disaster. The group promotes and teaches bushcraft skills, and other survivalist techniques as a means of self-reliance should such an event (or events) come to pass. The year 2012 is frequently referred to as a significant date in England's future.[1] Woden's Folk was founded by the folk warder, Wulf, on April 23rd 1998 following a series of mystical experiences centred around the appearance of the Hale Bopp comet in 1997.[2]
PurposeThe group's official website states that their purpose is to prepare the way for the coming of the English avatar, who is variously identified as The Hooded Man, Woden, HelgiH and Kalki.[3]
BeliefsPropheciesThe Woden's Folk website presents an apocalyptic, rhyming prophecy attributed to the founder of the group, Wulf.[5] Ar-Kan Rune-LagThe Woden's Folk website states that the group uses a "a new runic system devised by Wulf" entitled the "Ar-Kan Rune-Lag" system. The group defines the concept further:
PublicationsWoden's Folk publish two bi-annual magazines, Spear of Woden and Sword of Wayland. Two books, English Runic Mysteries, and Wera: The Solar Warrior, of a projected trilogy have so far been published. Long Man of Wilmington protestOn July 2, 2007, members of Woden's Folk demonstrated with a group of Neo-Druids in East Sussex against the filming of the television show Trinny & Susannah Undress at the site of the Long Man of Wilmington.[7] References
