Year 7

In schools in Australia, England and Wales Year Seven is the seventh year of schooling after Reception. It is normally the first year in secondary school or the final year in primary school. In England and Wales is the first year of Key Stage 3. Children's ages range between 11 and 12 years of age. In the 1970s, some local authorities adopted a system in which Year Seven was the final year of primary school, and several areas still have this three-tier system.

In Australia they range in age from 12 to 13 (normally 13) years of age.In Australia, children in year seven are often referred to as "sevies'. (slang for year seven, sometimes used in an offensive way)

Northern Ireland

Throughout Northern Ireland Primary 7 is the seventh year of compulsory education. Children's ages range between ten and eleven years of age. It is the last year of primary school and also the last year of Key Stage 2.

In this year group, most pupils sit the Eleven Plus examination which help determine whether individuals can get into grammar school for free. About thirty per cent of pupils have parents who choose not to have their children sit the exam, instead going on to Secondary school education regardless.^[1]
